WHY IT MATTERS
It Affects our Home
This year alone, more than 500 cases of neglect and abuse have been brought before the local court system. Of those cases, CASA by the Lakes has been able to provide a Court Appointed Special Advocate to 166 children. When a child is provided with a CASA they are provided with a voice. CASA volunteers speak only in the best interest of the child. They don’t have to account for budgets, politics, or case loads. They work on an individual basis, usually one case at a time, for their assigned child. The judge relies on CASA volunteers to help make the best decision possible for the child. CASA volunteers meet with the children and all relevant parties throughout the entire process. They become the eyes and ears of the courtroom.
A CASA’s job doesn’t stop in the courtroom though. While a child is placed in the foster care system, their CASA is a constant support in the child’s life. Foster children with an assigned CASA have been shown to perform better academically and socially during what is already a very trying time in their lives. CASA’s are not just another player in a crowded court system. They truly are superheroes.
Become a CASA
There are more children in the foster care system in our local area than we can currently provide CASA’s for. Maybe you are destined to be the next superhero to walk into a courtroom and speak up for a child. It doesn’t take any special skills or training- CASA’s come from all walks of life. All it takes is a bit of dedication and a lot of heart.
Visit our volunteer page today to become a CASA and start a journey that will not only change the course of a child’s life, but is guaranteed to change your life as well.
Sponsor a Child
CASA’s may be volunteers, but they aren’t free. It costs approximately $1,000 to provide a CASA to a child for one year. Each CASA participates in ongoing training and development to guarantee that they are best prepared to serve the children to whom they are assigned. We also provide CASA children with essential needs like warm clothing in winter, personal hygiene items, and school supplies. This all costs money, and that’s where you come in.
Maybe you aren’t ready to become a CASA, but can you give? When 100 people commit to giving only $10 per month, we will be able to provide CASA’s to 12 new children this year! This is your chance to make a difference!
CASA by the Lakes is a 501(c)3, non-profit organization that recruits, trains, and supports quality volunteers whose mission is to advocate for the timely and safe placement of abused and neglected children, speaking for the best interest of children in court, and offering encouragement, stability, and hope during a complex and critical time in the lives of these children.
